The fact that the people in Zerahemla knew to go to Nephi and that Nephi was already preaching and prophesying to them makes me think that the people had heard Nephi giving some of these same prophecies so that the people recognized Nephi as being connected with the message of Samuel.

After listening to Samuel, one might legitimately wonder whether it is better to be a Nephite with more light but higher expectations or to be a Lamanite with less light but more leniency. I think the answer had to be Nephite because those Lamanites who convert are eventually numbered among the Nephites anyway.

Samuel came to Zerahemla to preach a joyful message but his message became a message of warning after he was rejected.

While we may think that we would not forget the Lord, it would be good for us to wonder how long that would remain true if we were ever to be free of challenges to keep us humble.

I am always surprised with how quickly the Nephites turned to such consuming wickedness after being nearly destroyed prior to sincere repentance.
