Notice that during a time of great peace the land north and the land south were called after the names of men who never were rivals or enemies. Lehi and Mulek never knew each other but each led a people to this promised land.

Afternoon Nephi and Lehi had done what they could in preaching to the Lamanites and Nephite dissenters while they were in prison, their testimony was confirmed and expanded by a voice from heaven. The Lord was with his servants.

The Nephites were only able to achieve military success inasmuch as they returned to righteousness. Even then, there were limited to how much they could achieve in the face of simple demographics – they were severely outnumbered by the Lamanites.

At the same time as the Gadiantons are gaining strength, the church is prospering. People are individually turning either to righteousness or wickedness during this time of prosperity.

After the Gadiantons escaped from the populated areas of the Nephite nation they had a few years when things looked peaceful in their society desire the fact that secret combinations were acquiring power behind the scenes. Peace does not always equal righteousness.
