Helaman 16 Its funny to think that the wall Samuel stood upon was designed and built under the direction of Captain Moroni. There may have been improvements or alterations since the days of Moroni by the time Samuel got there but every Nephite city got its walls because of Moroni. Samuel had told the people…

Helaman 13 – 15 I wonder if we shall ever see a time in or suspension when those who think themselves righteous will be called to repentance by someone who comes from a heritage of wickedness.

Helaman 10 – 12 Although the people had just exonerated Nephi of the charge that he conspired to have the chief judge murdered and released him from prison, when he prophesied that they would be destroyed if they didn’t repent their response was to seek to imprison him again. It sounds like the death rate…

Helaman 8 – 9 The lower judges that are most angry at the words of Nephi lived ever fearful of how much the people might know of their wickedness. Their greatest fear was that the light of truth should ever be shined upon them and their activities for the public to see. The reason they…

Helaman 3 – 4 It us interesting to read of the church growing stronger at the same time as the wickedness among the wicked was increasing. In other words the people were becoming more polarized. I just realized that for virtually Nephi’s entire time as chief judge the Nephites did not have control of their…

Helaman 1 – 2 Paanchi must have known the law and the consequences of the actions he was taking. Out had only been a few years since the laws had been enacted which made it a capital offence to foment rebellion. He creating would have been unworthy of the judgement seat if he was unaware…

Helaman 16 Those who believed the words of Samuel had already heard Nephi preaching (perhaps everyone in Zerahemla had already heard Nephi preaching) which is why they sought him out when they chose to repent. The argument that the prophets would work some wonder to keep the people bound to them is laughable because the…

Helaman 15 I love the way that Samuel acknowledges that the Lord has favored and loved the Nephites and that salvation for his people came because of the Nephites. He is trying to encourage them and show that he does not think he or his people are better than them.
