  • Waiting for Christ

Simeon and Anna had obviously been waiting to see the Savior but it’s possible that some of all of the shepherds were not particularly looking for the savior when the angels came to announce his arrival. With such a visit, who could utterly ignore it and simply stay with the sheep?

  • Charity in practice

I’m studying charity to try to figure out how to intentionally turn my feelings around regarding Laura. “Love your enemies” might at first seem like a place to start but that’s my conundrum. She isn’t my enemy and I don’t think of her as such but that doesn’t change the fact that I am somewhere…

  • He is risen!!

The disciples on the road to Emmaus got a foretaste of what Jesus would say and do with the apostles in Jerusalem that He appeared to later that same night.

  • Unprofitable servants

We don’t paid servants or give them special rewards for doing the basic things that are expected of people in their position. The Pharisees saw the synagogues as convention halls for the righteous rather than hospitals for the spiritually afflicted. Of they thought of them as hospitals they would never have suggested that healing should be restricted during the sabbath.

  • Beware the leaven of the Pharisees

Did Jesus day this in the midst of an innumerable crowd so that as many people as possible would hear it out did He do so so that they wouldn’t dare lay hands on Him before it was time?

  • “Teach us to pray”

I never realized that the Lord’s prayer was taught in response to a question that came after Jesus had been praying in the temple. I assume that He was praying silently in the temple and one of His disciples wished to know how He prayed, what things He included when speaking to His Father.

  • Sending out the Seventy

It wasn’t just the apostles that are able to do miracles in Jesus’ name. He promised the Seventy great power and they excitedly reported that they were able to exercise it.
