It makes perfect sense that Jesus would be dining with publicans and sinners in the house of Matthew since those would have been the people that he, as a publican, would have associated with at least until the time that he was called as one of the twelve.

There’s something about the way that Jesus took the infirmities of people. He asked for what they could give in the way of faith or action, but He never asked for more than they were capable of delivering in order to be relieved of their suffering.

Somehow I never connected the fact that John had been preaching the Jesus would baptize with the Holy Ghost. That changes my thoughts about him saying he had need of being baptized by Jesus. It indicated “I need the cleansing and purifying of the baptism You offer.”

It sounds like Joseph and Mary had intended to stay in Bethlehem after Jesus was born rather than returning to Nazareth.
