Watching with dread
As the gathered Nephites watched the approaching Lamanites, I wonder how many of them were attempting to plan a method of escape, knowing that there was no way to win the coming battle. We know that some did escape but I wonder how many attempted it or even simply tried to envision it.

A reluctant record
Mormon didn’t desire to record what he saw but he did because he knew those things would be recorded one way or another. Whatever his wishes he wouldn’t about the tall which was his.

Righteous indignation
When the Nephites were angry about their women and children being sacrificed to idols they were able to secure one more victory over the Lamanites. I wonder if they turned to rain and torture after that which might explain why they never again gained ground from the Lamanites.

Preaching repentance
I wonder if part of the reason that the Lord commanded Mormon to preach repentance to his people was for Mormon to know that their continued wickedness wasn’t a result of him not being able to preach as he had been prevented earlier from preaching.
