Perfectly sound
It always amazes me that the breastplates which the people of Limhi found we perfectly sound while the sword, which were quite likely the same age, were cankered with rust. I would have expected sword to be as weather resistant as armor.

They knew not the course they should travel
At first glance I wonder how the people of Zerahemla could not know the direction to the land of Nephi. Because of how little is recorded from the time they left to the time they went selling their brethren I forget that decades have passed (likely at least 40 years) since they left that land.…

Beginning a new era
With the people having made a new covenant and taking a new name as well as receiving a new king set the people of Zerahemla up for a fresh new era – removed from the struggles that had been necessary to establish peace and righteousness in their land.

A given name
Benjamin told his people that he would give them a new name. Only after their hearts had been changed did he tell the the name he was planning to give them. He knew in advance that thing would unfold along these lines.

Retain a remission
Having obtained a remission of their sins, Benjamin teaches his people what they must do to retain that remission of their sins so that they may return home guiltless.

Good news … and a warning
Benjamin had a joyful message for his people – that Christ would come to atone for mankind. He did finish with the warning that, having received this news they would not be held blameless for living contrary to the message.

Three generations
I have always read the description of a family “consisting of a man and his wife and his sons and daughters and their sons and daughters”as being the beginning of a pattern that would continue for as many generations as possible. That interpretation might be correct but it may also be that there were limits…

Advice to sons
I wonder if the large plates contained records if kings teaching their sons in generations before Benjamin. That would be interesting.

Our great advocate
Jesus is able to save “to the uttermost” any who seek to come to God through Him because he knows perfectly how to succor those who experience temptation. Those who are tempted and respond by turning to Him for aid so that they might be worthy to return to heaven will receive the perfect succor…
