Before Ezra the scribe read the law to the people they had abandoned many of the practices that we laud them for today which have preserves their culture over millennia. They had to relearn those things and build the strong and lasting patterns that have since preserved them.

While Ezra was the spiritual leader of the people during the rebuilding of Jerusalem it was Nehemiah who had the political clout to secure the material assistance and legal permission that they needed to be restored to their lands. After reading the law to all the people they chose to believe and keep the law of Moses which until that…

Nehemiah 6 – 7 It is interesting to see all the ways that his enemies tried to distract and misrepresent Nehemiah. He leaned upon the Lord and was able to recognize those who sought to cut his work short by various means.
