Joseph Knight is another example of someone who gave early assistance to the work of the restoration. His assistance was of the same kind as Martin Harris – providing material support to allow Joseph Smith to translate the Book of Mormon – but he didn’t receive the same degree of recognition by historians as Martin did for what he gave. I suspect that he received less recognition in later years because he wasn’t among the public witnesses of the work. For all his support he wasn’t called upon to be one of the three witnesses or one of the eight witnesses.
Besides his material support, Joseph Knight stands out as one who came early to the gospel and stayed faithful until his death while traveling to the Salt Lake valley with the saints in the first year of their migration after he had already moved his family at least the other times in order to stay with the saints. As far as I can discover he was faithful from before the organization of the church until his death in 1847.
